Wahoo, today was fun.
We started off with dryland at seven in the morning. I came to realize that working out sucks without the Sun. At least, I think it does.
Then, we went with class which was all about reading... It was really odd, since the theme of the week is 'servanthood'. So that was a new perspective on that whole thing. It was about how we should read to be informed and so we can relate to a lot more people or something like that, very interesting.
Unfortunately, a shirt that I bought out here (which I like a lot) got some coffee spilled on it, so I was a little bummed there. But, keep remembering the shirt, it comes back up later in the day.
Then we had lunch, which featured an excess of ham sandwiches, which will be important later in the day.
Now later in the day, I discover that instead of doing my usual outreach at the preschool/nursery, I will be going out to Commercial drive and praying for people who want/need it. Certainly not within my ideal comfort zone. So this is where the sandwiches come in. The leaders decided that it would be cool to take them and give them to people on the street, so me and a guy named Simon (from Belfast, Northern Ireland) went up commercial drive to feed homeless people. The first while yielded little, because it was raining so not a whole lot of people were on corners and such. But once we got just past the Skytrain station at Broadway, there was a group of guys in front of a MacDonalds that took a few, and informed us of a group of people who live behind the Micky Ds. So we went there with a garbage bag full of individually wrapped sandwiches, and gave them all away but one, and the garbage bag that was holding them. We also got a prayer request from a man names Alfred to pray for a home for him, so keep that group on your mind, since behind the MacDonalds is actually their home. Another guy there named Wesley wasn't interested in prayer (though I will still pray for him), but was more interested in clothes, specifically socks. So hopefully I'll get some for him at some point in the future.
Anyways, since we only had 1 sandwich left, we went back to the base, but not before giving that sandwich to a man by the name of Brian. He was a really interesting fellow. He said he believed in God and everything, but he's had it rough for a while. He's been without a job for a few months and is also addicted to crack cocaine. So we prayed with him, and I think he really appreciated it.
So in case I forgot to mention, all this time we're giving sandwiches it is pouring wet. So anyways, remember the shirt? Well, I'm pretty sure that the rain got rid of the stain on the shirt, because it wasn't there when we finished giving out sandwiches, so it has been revived, in a sense.
So then we went back to the base, had some leftovers from the week, I did dishes, and scurried on home. I'm gonna do some work tonight too, so wahoo.
Arrivederci.
